Long Run and Brunch at Mama’s

Brunch at Mama’s was quite the experience. Saturday is long run day and Rusty really wanted to run over the Golden Gate Bridge.  So we caught an Uber to the Exploratorium and started our run there. Turns out, running over the bridge isn’t all that fun.  It’s loud, windy and being up so high kinda messes with your equilibrium.  But I tell you what is fun. Ending our long runs at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market.  This place is insane.  It’s the biggest farmers market I’ve ever seen.  Every week we bring home some fresh fruit.  The peaches and the pluots (Plum + apricot) are some of the most delicious fruit I’ve ever had. We loaded up our bag of fruit and rode the Bart home. We were glad to put that 13.1 behind us.

On our walk home from the Bart, only about two blocks from our apartment we heard tons and tons of fire engines wailing. A few seconds later we saw this:

An entire apartment building totally up in flames.  It was crazy to see.  We got there just after the first fire engines arrived and the firemen wasted no time throwing on their gear and getting to work.  We were fascinated watching them but were worried that the kids might be scared hearing all the sirens so we hurried home.  All was well at home and we had a good discussion about what to do in the unlikely event that something like that happened where we were living.

After a long hot shower we were ready for brunch.  Mama’s on Washington Square is in North Beach and has 3400 4 star reviews on yelp.  I knew we had to try.  We got there and the line was already really long, which we expected.  What we didn’t expect was that there was no list.  You actually had to physically wait in line.  For like 2 1/2 hours.

I pulled out my book on Kindle (I’m rereading Huckleberry Finn) and Rusty took the kids over to Joe DiMaggio playground.  They’d been dying to get back there ever since we went with Nat and Carlie.

By the time we ordered our food at the counter and then got seated everyone was incredibly hungry.  And our ordering reflected that.

We scarfed up all our food. It was pretty great, but I think we liked Mission Beach Cafe a little better. It was a fun experience and I’m glad we did it once.

We were completely lazy the rest of the day.  We napped and watched the Olympics.  It was perfect.
