Road to Hana
This was a LONG, yet beautiful day. The weather wasn’t awesome, which might have worked out a little in our favor, at least for the drive. The road wasn’t too crowded. And thank heaven, because it was stressful enough even with low crowds!

Our first stop was at Aunt Sandy’s for banana bread. And it fully lived up to the hype. It was delicious. It was warm, and the whipped butter melted like a dream. We scarfed two loaves and wished we had another!

The drive settled into a pattern—cross a narrow, one way bridge, see a beautiful roadside waterfall, drive up a windy hill. Rinse and repeat. We drove all the way to Pipiwai Trailhead first and planned on making several stops on our way home. Mother Nature had different plans. Our hike was rainy and muddy, but when has that ever stopped us? The bamboo forest was captivating, and turning the corner to see the Waimoku waterfall was worth every muddy step.

On the way back it really started a downpour and we were freezing by the end. We cleaned up the best we could with water from the drinking fountain and some paper towels and then went in search of huli huli chicken for lunch. Turns out it is a cash only kinda place and we didn’t have much cash. We were all starving after the hike and so we all dug through bags and wallets and suitcases and came up with enough cash for 3 meals. Which turned out to be more than enough! We didn’t even finish! I don’t think any of us were overly impressed with the food. But this cute little tree growing out of the rock? Loved.

We stopped at Coconut Glen’s for some vegan ice cream and Blake said we rage baited him. He thought coconut glen was just a cute name—he hates coconut stuff. 😂😂 The rest of us thought it was pretty tasty, but the wind and pouring rain didn’t really scream ice cream weather.

We got to twin falls 5 min after they closed, so no waterfall swimming for us. Which I don’t think anyone was super sad about. We were ready to hot tub! We got to our new resort, Houna Kai in Kaanapali. Loved this place! We jumped in to hot tub to warm our cold bones and then another early bedtime for the parents.
