Skyrail and Kuranda Railway

This was not our favorite day. We were still tired, (Blake just wanted to stay home and chill) and maybe a little “wowed” out. Because we rode a gondola over a beautiful rainforest and we were like, “meh.” I think we would have enjoyed it much more at a different time. It was sprinkling rain, so we couldn’t stop at any of the scenic lookouts and we were sad. We saw Baron Falls from the gondola—it is an impressive waterfall!

Kauranda was a super chintzy little tourist town. We tried to get lunch but were striking out like crazy. Places were closed or had super long lines. We went to a bakery that was supposed to have yummy pizza bread, but they were sold out and only took cash. They had some amazing looking donuts, so Halle and I went on the hunt for an ATM. We finally found one, and raced back to the bakery. The person in line in front of us bought the last donut.

We told Blake his lucky necklace was broken and he said, “no—I didn’t want to do any of this, so that’s why the rest of you are having bad luck” 😂

We killed an hour before the train left, and when we boarded and went to our assigned seats, who was sitting there but Paul from our dive boat! We got a good kick out of that. Not only was he in the same train car, but literally sitting right next to us.

The train ride was beautiful, but it was also very long. The best part was passing right next to a beautiful waterfall.  Luckily we had some cloud cover today and a bit of wind, so we didn’t totally melt. But the humidity is oppressive!

We came home and chilled out for a bit before going to dinner at Dundees. And we got to see our first flying foxes. They are everywhere! In the evening if you think you see a bird, chances are, it’s a bat. Josh and Blake finally got to try Kangaroo! And it was pretty delicious! Josh got roo and crocodile satay, and Blake got an Australian sample platter with roo, prawns, yabby, crocodile sausage, lamb chop and barmundi. He won dinner. It was so good. Besides the sausage. It was kinda weird.

Dessert was the star of the show—molten lava cake with a magnum bar shoved in the middle.

The rest of us had food that was just ok, and service took FOREVER. The boys got a certificate at the end of the meal saying that they had eaten Australian animals. 😂 I’m sure they will treasure it forever.
