Blue Mountains
The train was not running from Sydney to Blacktown for maintenance. So we decided to uber to Sydney Zoo and Featherdale and then pick up the train after that.
Featherdale was a big whomp whomp. Except for the fact that Blake won free kangaroo food in his map! His lucky streak continues. Unfortunately, his luck didn’t continue to the actual feeding of the animals. They were very uninterested. I was sad! I wanted to feed a kangaroo! We did see a very zoomie Tasmanian Devil. That was fun.
We met a Koala named Sage and got our very touristy photo. I don’t care. I love it. We got to pat her cute little bum.

Halle and Rusty went to Sydney Zoo so Halle could see a Parenti lizard. She was so happy. Rusty said Halle was the perfect zoo guide.

Everyone agreed that we thought neither of these sanctuaries/zoos were worth the hassle of getting there.
The boys and I couldn’t get an Uber so we had to fast walk 30 min to make it to the train station on time. We took the train to Katoomba and made a quick stop at the grocery store for a picnic lunch in the park. Then we jumped on a bus to Echo point to see the Three Sisters.
We tried to hike the giant staircase, but it was closed about 1/2 way down. Would have been nice to know that before we walked down hundreds of very steep stairs!
I can’t believe the number of trees on these mountains. It’s amazing and so beautiful.
We continued our hike to Katoomba Cascades and the kids had a great time traipsing all over the falls. Josh made it all the way to the top and Halle followed not far behind. I asked Blake to stand in a certain spot for a picture and it was too slippery. He had to step down into the water and completely soaked his shoes and socks. He had squishy feet the rest of the day!
We kept hiking, trying to get a glimpse of Katoomba falls. The trail system was confusing. But we were glad we kept going because we entered the most beautiful tropical rainforest with big green ferns.
Finally made it to the lookout for Lower Falls. It wasn’t the one we thought we were headed to, but it got the job done. We saw the falls.
Time for the Train back to Blacktown. We played two player games on the iPhone and ate snacks. In Blacktown we ate dinner at Volcano steakhouse. So yum! We got a jug of pink panther mocktails, which was the hit of the evening.
Then we Ubered home. Josh’s phone died and he was having Block Blast withdrawal. 😂
Lots of travel and effort to get out there today, but I’m glad we did. The kids are such great adventures!
